An Izakaya is a type of Japanese drinking and dining establishment. Izakaya is popular in Japan as it is part of Japanese's culture; a 'pub' that Japanese go to after a hard day from work, as it is a casual and relatively cheap place for after-work drinking. It was traditionally down to earth places where men drank sake and beer after work. This tradition has then complemented by a growing population of independent women and students.

Not only does a Izakaya serve drinks, but it also serves variety tapas that go along with your drinks. Once you are in an Izakaya, you will expect to be greeted by an enthusiastic 'irrashaimase!' (Welcome!) from staffs, and on the menu, you will expect to find sashimi, tempura, various deep-fried morsels, grilled fish, skewered foods and many more traditional Japanese dishes.
